Community Gatherings Coming to a Place Near You
One of the gifts and challenges of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Stockton is that our members come from a wide area. It is a gift because we represent so many different communities. Yet, gathering together can be a challenge with so much travel for many. We have members and friends who live in Stockton, Scales Mound, Galena, Elizabeth, Freeport and many other places.
In the next few months, Michele and members of the church will host community coffee/tea gatherings in many of these communities. Below are two already on the schedule. Watch for more over the next few months.
And there is nothing that says you should only go to the one in your community. This may be a fun time to visit other communities and learn more about the members and friends who reside there.

UU FUNRAISER GARAGE SALE JUNE 14/15
Are you doing Spring Cleaning and Organizing? Before giving away those unwanted items, please consider saving them for the UU GARAGE SALE which will be held June 14 and 15 in the Patterson Room. This is our first big fundraiser and it is on the same weekend as the Stockton all-town garage sales.
Items can be brought to the church starting Sunday, June 2. ALL ITEMS MUST BE PRICED by you. We will have price stickers available at the church if you need them. Items donated must be clean and in good condition. We will also have a table for Jewelry and Plants. ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED include TVs, clothes, and oldy-moldy books.
After the sale, you are welcome to take your items back if they did not sell. This needs to be done by Sunday, June 16, as we will be donating the leftovers to My Friend’s Closet on Monday the 17th.
We’d like to know if you wish to reserve a table (or part of a table) for your items, so we have an idea of how many tables to set up. There will be a sign-up sheet in the Patterson Room.
If you have any questions, please contact Sheila Haman at sheila.haman626@gmail.com or Diane Westervelt at gigglingtofu@gmail.com. Thanks, everyone!
Galena Pride Celebration
Our congregation will host a booth at this year’s Galena Pride festival on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from Noon to 5:00 PM. This recognition and celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community is a wonderful way to build relationships and offer support. Michele Grove, Laurinda Howe, and Nate Howe are coordinating the efforts. We would love for you to come and serve as a booth host for an hour or two. At least 2-4 of us will welcome visitors, take pictures, and lead an activity which engages participants. This year, we will lead a fiber arts craft. There will also be a circle for people to knit, crochet and more. For when we knit together, there is no room for hate or judgement!
If you would like to come and be a part, email Michele at uustocktonpastor@gmail.com. We would love to hang out with you!
Coffee Volunteers!
We are looking for volunteers to sign up for providing coffee and treats for after our services. Right now, the sheet is EMPTY for all the upcoming Sundays! Please consider signing up for a Sunday. Find someone to share the duties with – more fun and half the work! And remember, it doesn’t have to be a feast. Keep things simple and easy. If you get a phone call asking for your help, please say YES or sign up when you’re at church on Sunday. We will all appreciate your efforts!
